Starting Work

 Starting Work – Trainee Licence

A trainee licence allows you to be legally paid for giving driving instruction, but should not be regarded as a sole means of making a living or as an alternative to registration as an ADI.

An option you have available to you on passing your part 2 practical exam is to apply for what is known as your ‘Pink’ or ‘potential driving instructor’ (PDI) licence.

This licence lasts for 6 months, allowing you to legally earn whilst enabling you to gain real and valuable experience with your own pupils that can assist in preparing for the examination.

There are terms to this licence laid down by the DSA (see ADI 14) we will advise you on whether this suits your needs as it is by no means a requirement to passing your part 3.

Once you have passed your part 3 and have registered as an approved driving instructor (ADI) you are welcome to consider joining us at BDA or other options that we can provide help with, such as starting your own business or placement with other driving schools.
